It didn't take away anything tbh and they handled it perfectly so it was acceptable imo.

Those wondering why Hijikata was shot with a chip and became an otaku and not a cursed sword, my best guess is they didn't want to make a sequel/second movie with an almost similar plotline like the Benizakura/first movie. Okikagu ship is in this, if that's what you were looking for and it does not disappoint, director definitely knows that's a thing and he added more of that in this, I personally don't ship those two but the fact that he put this in is really remarkable, you can tell they really did their research considering they even put Okikagu ship in this! and of course, based on some side arcs and everything else that happened in this movie, even their attempt to include the Shogun Assassination arc, they must be very up to date with the anime or manga. Hasegawa's VA showed up in the side story, I wish he would've shown up in this, at least a cameo in that cabaret club scene. Sarutobi Ayame shows up in this, I thought the actor did good playing as her, definitely felt like Sa-chan we all know. Oguri Shun & Suda Masaki have better chemistry and are much closer together in this, they interact and banter with each other more in this, definitely had that feeling of Gintoki & Shinpachi Probably one of the best compared to others in the movie. I never liked how they picked Nakamura Kankuro for Kondo, mostly because he didn't look like him at all and I didn't think much of him before but in this movie, his acting really impressed me. Yuya Yagira's portrayal of Hijikata was very spot on, how he switched between Toshi and Hijikata. Miura Haruma as Ito impressed me, how come Ito looked bland in the anime and manga but looked so handsome in this? Let's just start off by saying Kubota Masataka as Bansai? He looks so spot on, Kubota playing as Bansai made the character look more badass than ever, whoever was in charge of the character costumes, they absolutely nailed it. CGI has definitely improved, you can tell the difference between the first movie and this movie. The soundtracks are fine really, still had that inspired gintama BGM playing but ending song, back number's Wrong Flag is great, fits right in if the anime were to have that song as an opening. Gintoki kicked a sword here and I have never seen that lol. The fight cinematography is definitely good, not Rurouni Kenshin's levels of good but it's solid. The fourth wall breaking jokes, the serious-turned-into-comedy transitions that Gintama does so well, characters are all great and very Gintama-like! Comedy is definitely on point, very hilarious. We even got to see the cast trying not to burst in laughter in the beginning. Thanks to the director, who mostly does comedy dramas & movies, he did not disappoint here at all. Very fun movie! Gintama fans wouldn't be disappointed at all, it definitely captured that feeling of Gintama.
